Reccomend me a new anime, Baccano has made me thirsty for more extreme action violence. Anything similar you guys would recommend? High school of the dead of course, pending dubbing. |

hmm, I liked FMA brotherhood (sans the excessive melodrama), the action in it was pretty cool, the last few fight scenes were awwwwesome! Baccano was my favorite thing I've seen all year, very cool. If its anything like Baccano I'm sure I'll like it. Buuuut, fuck, I can only find it subbed on demonoid, has the full dub been finished yet? |

No idea since it aired in Japan not that long ago. If it reassures you, Baccano was adapted from a manga. So was Durarara. the Artist of the mangas is the same. And the same studio is behind the anime versions. On wiki I saw this At Anime Expo 2010, Aniplex of America confirmed that they have the license to Durarara!! and are planning to produce an English dub for a planned January 2011 release. so either wait or watch the sub like real men do. |

haha, I do watch a sub, I also watch dub, I watch sub and dub, you can do that you know. I even find that the english translation has considered the cultural differences and rephrases things in more western terms, so those Japanese only cultural things aren't just completely lost to my western brain. However, it is interesting contrasting the sub with the dub, anyway. The 'sub only' attitude is senselessly snobbish, elitism without value or purpose. I really think you get a better understanding with sub+dub. Subtitles are good, yes - but what value is it listening to a bunch of gibberish that you don't understand? I might wait, I dunno, 24 episodes. Oh yeah - FYI, Baccano's English translation was superb. If you haven't seen it dubbed yet, go watch it again. |

What a thoughtful rebuttal! Lets just overlook the whole difference between live film dubs and animated dubbing, and the fact that you at least understand english a little bit. A good english translation studio can, always in my experience, manage to make the lip-sync look every bit as believable as the japanese translation. Doing that with live human beings, however, is a different story altogether. You know that, bitch, and you lost the argument and cant admit that you're wrong. OH THE HORROR! |

I'm watching so many anime subs for such a long time that sometimes when I don't look if I'm paying attention to something else like my phone I'll hear the japs speak and understand what was said. oh god the horror |

sure you do. You are just trying to avoid admitting that you are wrong and that your logic is completely void of purpose or reason. but yeah - on occasion the translation goes sour and just sucks, but if the translation studio was any good, as was the case with bebop, trigun, ranma, inuyasha, baccano, fullmetal alchemist, and even claymore - then the english translation was good.  English: "Hey, what would you say if I could make you a tailor made Panda coat as a present" The diction of the sub is specifically Japanese, the definition of "muffler" meaning "coat" was completely lost on me (and you). The voice translation continually fits the theme of the story to more western understanding. Tatewaki Kuno is one example of what an outstanding job English anime translators can do. I continually find the English voice choice markedly improved over the Japanese script. The enthusiasm and pitch of his voice, the wording, Kuno is one character that had more translation than others because his japanese script is so unique to Japanese culture. Hes also my favorite character in Ranma thanks to the excellent English writers. You like Ranma, right? I am sure you would enjoy Kuno a LOT more if you heard his english script. Anyway: you presume that you're a big real man for watching the Japanese version, and unless you are as educated about Japanese culture as a team of paid professionals with it in their resume (you're not, shutup), then you only inhibit your own viewing. They understand the japanese phrasing better than you, you are better off at understanding the Anime if you watch it in English (plus sub, if you want), PERIOD. You are also more likely to have a pleasant viewing experience when you aren't listening to gibberish while reading constantly too. You're logic is entirely failed and I will continue to drag this shit out and completely obliterate your false and pretentious elitism and show anyone who reads this what a tragically false sense of snobbishness you have. Shall we examine another point, right before that spot even  English: "My men and I were hunting the panda that came down the river." I win, you lose, just admit it. "subbed correctly", bullshit, you may be able to learn a tiny bit of japanese when watching it in japanese+subbed, but there is no cultural learning value in watching it sub+jap. That's a stupid argument from a pompous ignorant frenchmen and you know it, you're just too stupid and proud to concede to reality because you're clutching to that snobby elitism like a little baby. Forget about thinking and considering the facts and examining evidence, just keep clutching to your teenage pride you buffoon. Just know this - you are quite opposite to truth in what you originally asserted that "watch it sub like real men do". Because obviously: real men have reason and consideration in their deliberation, not just grabbing onto popular elitism and just sticking to it thoughtlessly.
