Don't Puch Me Buttins Bish!

Just poppin in to say that I don't wait 3000 years to wait for the dubs to show up on the internet I watched baccano like years ago when it came out or come out on DVD or watch it on TV because I don't watch on TV and to also mention that I've enjoyed a lot of anime's dubbed in my youth like 08th ms team and Cowboy Bebop and more and there was nothing wrong with them and that Orajel is a huge fagget.

Chaos - much agreed, in fact, I was extremely underwhelmed when I saw some of Baccano in japanese afterwards. Theres often at least some value in watching the alternative audio, but it was just so outshined by the english cast I found it worthless to redo in jap. Bebops japanese was pretty cool too, but not nearly as cool as its English. And fuck man, edward in English was WAAAAAAAY cooler. Batist - you know what they say about people who frequently accuse others of faggotry? And, how it seems to not only be your favorite, but your only insult. Just saying, it raises questions about your sexuality (and intelligence). FYI I do frequently watch Jap+sub, I watched claymore, paranoia agent, Inuyasha: FA, ghost in the shell +2, Berserk, fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, etc all first in jap+sub. I really liked the Japanese Inuyasha, 'Kazi no Kizu' also sounds a lot cooler than "windscar!". I'm not entirely opposed to jap+sub, I just usually (95% of the time) prefer the english audio translation. Imma give Chrono Crusade a shot, if its a crapshoot I may just cave in and watch durarara or hsotd in jap+sub. Any thoughts on Chrono Crusade? And yeah I am fully aware that I am blabbing and dragging this out way longer than it needs to, but its fun. And Buu - now I buttfuck you again. Edited by Orajel, Aug 30 2010, 01:06 PM.

As for me, it's pretty much a case-by-case basis... I usually can't tell whether or not the Japanese audio is top-notch (for example: I remember reading that the woman's performance in Rashomon was considered excellent and that Toshiro Mifune's performance was hammy... I thought it was the other way around), but there are a few occasions where I've taken note of how great the Japanese version is (or at least I think it was really great); off the top of my head, Monster and Shigurui were particularly notable, I thought... Funny thing is, I like both shows in English as well. Going even further, the vast majority of my animu exposure is usually in English and it is inevitably variable (most likely because I can tell whether it's good or not)... FUNIMATION does a lot of good work nowadays, but if I were to think of stuff that I didn't particularly enjoy in English... Pretty much all of Ghost in the Shell... Paprika was pretty lame (which is too bad since Paranoia Agent had an incredible dub), don't like the Patlabor movies in English and so on... OVERALL, it's really a case-by-case thing, really... I don't like to make sweeping notions that EVERYTHING in a group is bad, but I'd like to think that I have the foresight to at least recognize what's good (at least in English)... Also, anime is kind of a strange creature; going back to MONSTER, it should be really fucking strange that a show set in Germany (and a believable one at that: Masayuki Kojima and his production staff did a lot of research in Germany putting that show together) has it's original dialog in JAPANESE... Yet I really like the Japanese performances. Edited by DKL, Aug 30 2010, 02:18 PM.

Okay everybody form a line and I will ejaculate in everyones butt! Stargazer, I'll get you twice. DKL - I sort of agree with that sentiment. What usually motivates me to pursue a japanese audio is either A) English is bad, B) I'm thrilled with the show and want to have the full dual audio experience, or C) love the show and can't wait for a dub (as was the case with Inuyasha: final act, shutup I like it). I also thought Ghost in the shell was pretty weak in english, very monotonous. Samurai X was also one of those. Rurouni Kenshin had sort of lame voice acting, but the overall theme of the show was pretty lame too, so it sort of fit (the series, not the OVA) Are you recommending Monster then? |

Yes: http://www.hulu.com/watch/114306/naoki-urasawas-monster-herr-dr-tenma#x-0,vepisode,1,0 (that being said, dub takes a little while to get better, but once it hits its stride, it's really great) |

Hm... talking about anime: I find it interesting that I can make a quick $600 if I sold my Cardcaptor Sakura + 2 movies DVDs on E-Bay... I'm not really sure what the rationale for collecting DVDs is, but I think this would be it... Yet I'm not tempted to part with the thing any time soon... and if I did, it would be to maybe get the Japanese Blu-Ray sets? (which cost around $1,000 for both halves) Edited by DKL, Aug 31 2010, 02:44 AM.
